"La Cumparsita" Tango Fire
Enjoy the dramatic and sensuous dancing of Tango Fire performing La Cumparsita
La Cumparsita is a musical piece written by Gerardo Matos RodrÃguez, an Uruguayan musician, in 1917. It is among the most famous and recognizable tango songs of all time. The title translates as “The little parade” and the original lyrics begin: “The little parade of endless miseries…” La Cumparsita is very popular at Milongas; it is a common tradition for it to be played for the last dance of the evening.
It was composed in the music room of Club Nacional de Football, and played for the first time in ConfiterÃa La Giralda, a cafeteria located where the Palacio Salvo now stands in downtown Montevideo. The song was named cultural and popular anthem of Uruguay by law in 1997.
The Tango Fire Company of Buenos Aires was formed in 2005 by its producers Andrew Kay & David Vigo The company premiered Tango Fire in Singapore in April 2005. In August of the same year the show was presented at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where it was an instant success. This lead to the company touring extensively around the world over the last 6 years. The group choreographies are created by Yanina Fajar with German Cornejo assisting her. The individual couples choreograph their own solos as is traditional in the world of Tango in Argentina. Allowing the couples creative freedom creates a showcase of the 5 couples different styles to make the Tango Fire Company of Buenos Aires unique in the world of Tango. (Tango Fire Website)
