Dario Poli starts campaign for Marbella

Composer, artist, and published author Dario Poli, whilst in Malmo Sweden in April 2007 , saw a CNN Broadcast on TV, which shocked and deeply disturbed him for its non-complimentary and negative content about Marbella and the Costa del Sol in general.

Furious, Dario decided there and then to fight back and do what he could to redress the propaganda. On returning to Spain he wrote the melody of a song which he titled “Marbella, Marbella” expressing his love for the town.

The lyrics were later added by Dario and Alan Ward and the song registered with S.G.A.E in Malaga, then first sung by singer Alan de Ward and produced by arranger David Mairs in his Fuengirola Studio. It was later recorded and sung by Scottish singing star Samantha Mairs and played on Radio Clyde FM in Scotland during her interview.

Since that fateful CNN program Dario’s one man fight for Marbella has intensified as the song has been played on most of the major radio programs such as Onda Cero FM, REM’s Mary Harboe Show, Radio Mijas, Global FM and Central FM just to mention a few, as well as television. It was used as a promotional song for “BLADERUN” Marbella to Ibiza September 2007, and since then his campaign story has been carried in over eighty international magazines and newspapers.

The song was presented by Laura Stanbridge, the organizer of the recent BCCS & CIT Symposium held in November which was attended by

Angeles Muñoz with CD

the Mayoress Angeles Munoz, Councillor for Tourism of Marbella Jose Luis Hernandez, British publicist Max Clifford, REM’s leading radio presenter Maurice Boland and other heads of the business community.

Dario decided that to become more effective this song should have Spanish Lyrics and sung in the native language. He met Cuban singing star Yanela Brooks, who wrote the Spanish Lyrics and recorded the song which has been played on Spanish radio and TV.

The Spanish version was presented at Da Bruno’s exclusive restaurant in Marbella in April 2009, to a packed and positively responsive audience,  including Royalty; and was brilliantly sung by Yanela Brooks, and the jazz version was played by internationally renowned jazz musician from Belgium Louis Fiers.

With the important support of Danish born IT expert Simon Schönbeck, they set up this new lifestyle website called “Marbella Marbella – Adelante” to continue Dario’s work via the medium of the internet. The site is steadily growing in popularity and reaching an international audience that  includes artists and intellectuals. As one writer called it “A safe haven for art and culture!”

Dario is working to have the song “Marbella, Marbella” played all over Europe spreading the good news about the town and is working with others in the media to bring the tourists and property buyers back to this glorious area.

I'm searching to buy the book on Nostrodamus of which Dario did the illustrations way back in the early ninety's. The book is no longer in print therefore I am searching for a second hand one. Can you help with the title of the book and where I might get one from? I would like the book that has the illustration of death and re-birth –

I googled you and Delia and there you were; I will always remember Delia's beautiful voice. Not sure now if I fell in love with her, or her voice. How is Delia – that is a clue, but remember Bruce at Batley Variety…. I still have your photos.
    When is your record available.
Write to me please – Bob

    • Dario

Hello Bob, what an amazing surprise; thanks to the wonders of the Internet,

Many thanks for your kind words and for taking us back down memory lane.
How the decades have flown by since the super days of our youth with the terrific musical scene we had in those times
especially at the famous Batley Variety Club, which hosted most of the top international stars including Bruce Forsyth.
Delia and I were honoured and happy to perform there to those great audiences who could make or break artists.

We do remember you and hope that all is well with you in your life

Many thanks for contacting us and say hello to anyone else we may have known

    Dario & Delia,
It must be at least 25 years since we last met, and certainly 30 years since last seeing Delia. We had some great times at The greyhound pub, and it is still so nice to see that you are still alive and well. I always wondered what happened to Delia, such a lovely girl.
After moving to London in 1982, which is where our paths crossed again at a catering exhibition i believe, i have been back to leicester a number of times, but the old crowd at the greyhound seem to have vanished.
After moving from London to maidenhead berkshire, and getting married/now divorced, i have a son charlie aged 22 a very keen illustrator in his final year degree course at Falmouth College of Art.
My brother Gerry is married with 1 son and still lives in Maidenhead.
I in the meantime moved down to Polperro in Cornwall after my mother passed away in 2009 where i am still living.
It would be great to hear from you both.
Take care, and all the best to you.
    Martin Lewis
