The congratulations were well deserved as Denmark’s Twenty-year-old Emmelie de Forest and her talented group, produced a song winning formula that took the viewing public by storm, beating the closest runners up, Azerbaijan and Ukraine. The folksy Celtic inspired song “Only Teardrops”  sung by Emmelie in bare feet, led the voting for most of the evening as millions of expectant spectators were glued to their TV screens all over Europe to see the annual often controversial musical contest, produced and broadcast from Malmo Sweden’s southern City, which lies directly opposite Denmark’s elegant capital Copenhagen, that  connects the two cities by a magnificent suspension bridge.

She was a strong favourite with bookmakers and Eurovision fans ahead of the event. Thanks to her performance, Denmark now will  host the contest next year Emmelie’s stunning victory means the Scandinavian dominance of the Eurovision Song Contest continues, since ABBA won in 1974.
