What a waste in Denmark
For the second year in a row Denmark has been revealed as the most wasteful nation in the EU.
According to new figures from Eurostat, the EU’s statistical office, Danish households produced more waste during 2008 than any other member state, just as in 2007.
With 802 kg of trash per household, the Danes out-rubbished second place Cyprus, which produced only 770 kg per household.
On the bright side, 42 percent of the waste was either recycled or composted, putting Denmark behind only Germany, Austria, Sweden, Luxembourg, Belgium and The Netherlands in waste disposal efficiency.
People in the Czech Republic produced the least waste, at only 306 kg per household, although only 4 percent of this was recycled.
