A Flood In Fate’s Garden
I spoke not,
Yet unyielding
my soul cried out
Follow me, My Love…
and you followed.
For you heard
the quiet pleadings
of my soul’s
unfinished dreaming…
Onward I lead you
through the boundless
passages of possibility,
past Heaven’s forbidden castles
of bird and flight,
of unspoken scriptures
carved like tombstones
upon our hopeful yearning;
foolish and forlorn
Still, we wandered
past the crumbling cathedrals
where our dreams drifted seaward
toward a certain oblivion;
so bitter a seed, planted
within Fate’s gated garden
There you knelt beside
the sculptures carved of
my tired convictions
and weary conflictions
There you wept
(blind to your own shortfalls)
crying out against
my imperfections,
my burdensome disbelief,
and unwilling withdrawal…
And there
I recoiled in remembrance
before the gates of your leaving
recounting the lies
that form your lips to daggers
and spin my heart to hungry gold,
to crimson embers,
of ivory bone and brittle ash,
deceit built like sandcastles
upon the ocean floor.
And I have tried to remind
my hands of your touch,
my heart of your flame
Your vision;
so deeply, wind-worn
as tattered flags
of breath and surrender
Despite my tired attempts
to remind myself of beauty
yet unyielding beneath
the blanket of Autumn snow
and December tears,
I am left knowing only lies
which you sing like flocks
of wingless birds,
And I have only
untruth and solemn lament
to guide my slow fall
back through these
haunted hallways of heaven
alone (yet ever
changed.
