In the context of the International Land Art Event in Biel – Bienne in Switzerland, commissioned by Kardo Kosta, Spanish artist Charo Carrera, who has her studio and lives in Malaga, presented her project “The wound” (La herida, or “La blessure” in its original French title).
In a magical place of the forest, la Forêt de Boujean, she used the existing rocky environment of the spot and the sacred tree which extended its branches as a sheltering sky. Charo Carrera followed the profound life lines of the stones, inserting red velvet in them, dodging the accumulated moss, moisture and plant debris of each one.
Then she highlighted the elongated crack of the tree presiding the installation with the same red velvet. So she left a visual mark of the blood that accumulates and circulates throughout the intervention, like an open wound that infringes animals, nature, and ourselves.
The bleeding rocks are leaving their trail on the cleaned earth’s surface, combed by the artist, like a Japanese garden.
And the stones, they are still bleeding…
