Born in London Christopher Stone, was mentored by Barry Flanagan until his death in 2009. The artist who currently lives, and works from his studio on Ibiza will be showing both sculptures, and paintings. Over the past years Stone has become recognized for his uniquely crafted sculptures, and colourful, vivid paintings, some of which hold a subtle social, political poke in the eye for the viewer. Situated somewhere between fantasy, and reality Stones sculptures evoke a very definite reaction from those who see them.
This solo show at the Musée de peinture presents a series of five new fantasy sculptures, and six paintings based on people Christopher has met, and places the artist has visited, you have to decide if they are real, or products of the artist’s runaway imagination. Five mixed media sculptures, all table top sized, reflect Stones love of the fantastic, and imaginary include unicorns, and mermaids. Christopher tell’s us that he has recently began collaborating with one of Ibiza’s finest rural hotels Cas Gasi on a daily basis. Situated in a valley, in the heart of the Island Cas Gasi is an oasis of tranquillity, where Christopher gains inspiration for his creations. Hotel owner Margaret von Korf is a patron of Christopher’s art, encouraging him to create and allowing him a free hand to express his creativity in idyllic surroundings. Cas Gasi is sprinkled with hand crafted furniture, together with other pieces of Christopher’s art. Chris’s sculpture, and art is collected, and enjoyed by passionate private art collectors, and investors; corporate business and public authorities across the world. Dynamic in execution, his sculptures exude passion, deliberation and expertise in his control of multi-medium materials which are admired by art connoisseurs, dilettante art lovers, corporate business, and private collectors with an eye for this expertise and 3D aesthetics to behold.
