Oliver Tobias supports Age Concern

“I have never held so many interviews and photo calls in one day”, said Oliver Tobias when he recently lent his support to Age Concern  España. The one-day event was held at Hotel Tamisa Golf, Mijas Golf, organised by Wendy van der Veen from Damaris Events. Oliver’s short visit was a resounding success in terms of promoting the work of Age Concern with unprecedented media interest. Private interviews were given throughout the day, and those who took up the opportunity to meet Oliver in person during the evening reception were treated to a special insight of his long career in both film and theatre. This included anecdotes from working with Joan Collins in “The Stud” and his lead role in the ground-breaking production of “Hair”. During the filming of “Arthur of the Britons”, Oliver recalled the time that he was speared. Furthermore, he received Honorary membership of the Russian Stunt Association.

At the end of the evening, he was presented with a personal album of photographs and letters from fellow actors and producers as well as fans from across the world. Jenny Thompson, vice-president of the British Chamber of Commerce, and Louise Fichtinger, Regional Co-ordinator for Age Concern for Andalucía, both thanked Oliver Tobias for his support. Age Concern España cares about all older people and provides services for residents and tourists who are over 50 years old.  Their services are run by teams of volunteers and is invaluable and, indeed, essential.

I also add my personal gratitude to Oliver Tobias for his patience and indefatigable professionalism. My allocated half-hour slot to photograph him was three o’clock and I had been concerned that, after six hours of continuous interviews, he would be somewhat drained! To the contrary, he agreed to lay by the side of the swimming-pool at the hotel, so that I could create something different, using his reflection in the water – a true gentleman, and a pleasure to work with. I look forward to his return visit to Costa del Sol, Marbella in the New Year.
