Museo Thyssen to open in a year
Gradually we get to know new details about the Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum of Malaga, which opens its doors in the palace of Villalon within a year. The Baroness has visited this morning the building works with the mayor, Francisco de la Torre, director of the Thyssen Museum in Madrid, Guillermo Solana and the curator Tomas Llorens. They have provided new clues about the project. Llorens has advanced the Malaga museum incorporates a piece of Joaquin Sorolla and a Jose Gutierrez Solana one.
Llorens has clarified that it is a view of the port of San Sebastian from the final period of the Valencian painter. From the work of Gutierrez Solana, he announced that it is “a true masterpiece.” Still, one year of the inauguration of the museum, the project promoters have still not clarified which funds the center and its 200 works will be financed from.
What they have announced is both temporary exhibits that the museum presents starting in autumn 2011. The first would focus on a painting by Vincent Van Gogh belonging to the international collection of the Baroness, while the other project would be a smaller version of the show ‘Jardines Impresionistas’ which the Thyssen Museum in Madrid is preparing. To Málaga a selection of 40 paintings by authors such as Renoir, Monet, Sisley and Pissarro will arrive.
