World Fine Art Professionals and their Key-Pieces, 452 – Natallia Kasaverskaya

I recently saw the works of Natallia Kasaverskaya in Vrij Paleis in Amsterdam. Many portraits with their faces masked. Very intriguing. Natallia was happy to provide some explanation.

Her passion is studying the psychology and inner world of people through art, she says. “So the central theme in my works is a person and those non-obvious feelings and experiences that we usually do not attach importance to. In the static, faceless silhouettes of people, I capture a moment of introspection. I kind of bring the viewer face to face with subtle things that, I think, are inherent in us all and lie deep inside us.”

Her works do not contain any kind of appeal or protest, she adds. “They are a kind of statement of fact, my interpretation and visual embodiment of the topics that concern me. Such as personal freedom and our perception of each other, rejection of secret desires, hidden loneliness and self-acceptance.”

Why is this theme important to her?

“These topics are important to me because this is what represents my area of interest, what is primarily close to me and what I think about. I like to conduct internal analysis from the perspective of neurobiology, thinking about where certain experiences and emotions come from. I am a rather private person and my paintings are not only a way of self-expression but also a means of communication with the outside world, a kind of medicine for the soul.”

In creativity she finds freedom and the opportunity to be herself. “This is priceless to me. Art is an integral part of my personality and allows me to find harmony and meaning in life.”

Does she have a key work?

She has. But it is difficult to determine which work exactly. “All my paintings are like links in one chain. But perhaps a special role can be assigned to a series of works called ‘Color Me’. These are works about our perception of each other, about what our judgment about a person is based on when we see him for the first time. Our subconscious automatically gives us intuitive answers about who is now standing in front of us; for us, a person’s face immediately speaks volumes. But is there truth in this?

In other words, based solely on our personal experience, we color the stranger with our emotions and see what we want to see, we read the information that is already stored in us. Also, this series of works is a kind of starting point and the beginning of my creative path. These are some of the first works that were presented to the public and caused a response. This gave me a huge boost and energy to continue creating. I gained an understanding that I am on the right path.”

How long is she an artist?

Natallia was born and raised in a small town in Belarus and her creative journey began in the world of fashion and clothing design. “After graduation, I worked on creating and developing my own clothing brand. I believed that clothes could be not just a practical necessity, but a form of self-expression and creativity. In my opinion, my education as a fashion designer subsequently had a huge impact on the formation of my unique visual language: attention to detail, use of fabric, threads, combination of textures.”

She moved to the Netherlands a few years ago. “Moving to the Netherlands became a new step in my creative journey. I became interested in contemporary art and studied graphic design. Since about

2020, my creativity has smoothly flowed into creating paintings. And starting in 2023, I began to actively take part in various art exhibitions. I don’t yet have a lot of experience to share, but I’m very happy with where I am now, this is a very inspiring and exciting stage in my life. At the moment, I continue to expand my skills, looking for new ways to implement my ideas and concepts.”

Finally, what is her philosophy?

“My art philosophy is quite simple, no matter how banal it may sound, but there is no need to complicate anything, you need to follow your instincts exclusively, continue to create no matter what and not indulge the tastes of others. This is the only way to create something truly new and unique. You need to create visual images and atmosphere that are primarily close to you. You can’t please everyone, but your inner passion can fade. And of course, the most important thing is to love your paintings, otherwise there is no point in it.”
