Who Do You Think You Are! - Dario's Musical Memory Lane
Candlewick Green a successful British group 1972 who performed on some shows with Dario & Delia!
Candlewick Green with one of their best known hits “Who do you think that you are”!
I must confess that I am enjoying my trips down memory lane, and the group mentioned above, was one of my favourites and not only for music. Delia and I performed with them on several occasions and we always had great time in their company. The boys were helpful, warm-hearted and generous to a fault, without an ounce of the dreaded stardom egos. They transmitted their Northern warmth to all those around.
With Derek on guitar, Dudley on keyboards, Terry the vivacious singer with the great smile, Jimmy on bass guitar, and Alan on drums, they were a superb professional outfit, filled with vitality and enthusiasm. The audiences went wild wherever they performed. It was a pleasure for me to have listened to their music and shared my time with with such genuinely nice people.
Candlewick Green a new British band, appeared on the famous UK TV talent show Opportunity Knocks winning each series for some 8 consecutive weeks which was a record for that time. As a result they obtained a record contract and released a few singles, but this 1974 single “Who Do You Think You Are” was their only UK top 30 hit.
The track is co-written by Des Dyer of UK band Jigsaw ( `Sky High` fame ) who shared the same management as Candlewick Green. Jigsaw had recorded the track as a future album track . Candlewick Green asked if they could record a cover and release it as a single. Jigsaw agreed and Candlewick Green had their only charting hit.
UK singles –
1973 Doggie
1973 Sunday Kinda Monday
1974 Everyday of My Life
1974 Leave A Little Love
1974 Who Do You Think You Are?
1975 Last Bus Home
1976 Sign of the Times
In the USA Who Do You Think You Are was a hit for Bo Donaldson and The Heywoods
Sadly over the years we have lost touch with the group, but we do still think of them with fond memories and hold them in considerable esteem, and hope they are all enjoying their lives and still bringing their happy smiles to all their audiences.
