The Music in Europe and the New World
GUSTAV MAHLER IN MEMORIAM 100 ANNIVERSARY
After the symphonic explosion of Gustav Mahler’s works, the music starts one of the richest periods in history. As Dvorak announced, there were new musical expressions that took the stage, specially in the United States, where afro-american traditions became relevant in music. The Blues and Jazz era was beginning with Aaron Copland and George Gershwin.
Europe has received these new sounds after 1918 in the music of composers such as Maurice Ravel.
From Mahler’s death in 1911, the european classical music tradition has made a “twist” on itself, creating new shapes and new formats, generating breaks and discussion but recreating new sound universes opened to other places in the world.
This 50 years is our “meeting point” along the III Documentary Music Film Season where we will develop the music from classical to jazz in a journey which will stop at the “new Tango” from Piazzola.
The beginning of the season will take us to an adventure to discover the “secrets” of the symphonic orchestra. We will travel by the rows of strings, winds, drums and follow the waves of the conductor’s baton.
Season will start 23rd of September at La Virginia Church, in Urb. La Virginia, Marbella, at 8pm along one Friday a month up to June 2012. Season tickets 50 € or 6€ per session.
