Milan comes to Mijas
Agustín Torralbo is one of the designers we will hear much of in the years to come. The enthusiastic press agreed that after his debut in Madrid when Torralbo aroused furore with his summer collection.
It also sounds strange to talk about a debut for Torralbo abroad was already one of Spain’s most famous haute couture designers. He had in particular created a wedding dress for Princess Haya of Jordan, but as is often, ones native country is often the hardest to conquer.
In Milan, where competition and inspiration from such names as Valentino, Lagerfeld, Armani and Dior can brings out the best in you, Torralbo got his major breakthrough. And when he looks back, he has trouble believing that it all happened seven years ago Time has gone so fast!
Last year he returned to Spain where he also has received more and more offers of work after the customers saw him in Milan’s big showcase. He has just moved to Mijas, practical because many customers live in Marbella.
But others live far away so once a month he’ll take the plane to Saudi Arabia, to serve the Royal Family members in his own showroom.
Take a look at one of Torralbo’s favourite models, Miss Marbella Belinda Gutierrez, and speaking of models – do not get complexes about her aims, warns the designer as he would like to eradicate the prejudice that haute couture is only for the young and perfect.
“My starting point is always the woman who orders her dress. If she is 65, size 44 and not very attractive in their own eyes – yes, it’s then my job to get her to change her view of her own worth, when she looks at herself in the mirror afterwards. “Which she will do” promises Agustín Torralbo.
