Málaga's central train station re-opens
Another milestone in Málaga’s expanding transport network was reached on Monday with the reopening of the city’s Centro-Alameda station. With that opening, the local train line linking Fuengirola and the centre of Málaga began running again yesterday, as well. A second access to the new station, from behind the Correos building, will open next week.
The station has been closed for the past two years for renovation. It was re-opened by the Secretary of State for Transport, Concepción Gutiérrez, and by Antonio González, president of ADIF, the railway infrastructure company.
Trains now depart from both Centro-Alameda and Fuengirola on the hour and half hour for a journey of 50 minutes.
New Civia trains, which are already in use on the other local line to Alora, will be used on the line from April 5.
Meanwhile, construction of the Málaga metro continues, with 2.5 kms of tunnel now excavated in Velázquez under the Carretera de Cádiz. The section from the Martín Carpena sports stadium to the Avenida de la Paloma has been completed.
The newly renovated station complements the rail links between the city and other major Spanish metropolitan areas, including the acclaimed AVE rapid rail lines running to Madrid and Sevilla.
