Good business bound for Marbella
A struggling restaurant in Marbella generated more business in 26 hours last week than it had during the previous three months thanks to the collaboration between four enterprising parties.
With trade slow, customers reluctant to dine out, and an area of secluded private woodland begging for use, the German restaurant owner called in a specialist meat chef, event coordinator and entertainer to host an innovative outdoor garden party featuring food, drink, disco and crafts market.
The ever-reliable excellent weather guaranteed a good turnout, yet success was down to a combination of creatively seizing an opportunity, careful planning, applying each parties’ former and current skills, and forming a tight ad hoc team united with a common purpose.
This is precisely the spirit Marbella and the Costa del Sol needs.
And, on a much larger scale, this is exactly the image the city will project as the planned new International Business School, World Trade Center and enlargement of the Marina-La Bajadilla Port come on stream.
Marbella is building on its long-standing relationship with Saudi Arabia while cementing its reputation for “the inspirational role the city is playing in the Andalusia region” among progressive investment partners in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
A stone’s throw from Marbella’s Palacio de Congresos on the Golden Mile, the massive, aptly named Oasis Business Centre could be adapted to house some of the incoming corporate tenants, making it Marbella’s new business hub offering extensive global outreach which competing locations can only dream of. Add to this Málaga Football Club’s recent high profile signing and peace-promoting partnership with UNESCO, and we’ve got an exciting recipe for unparalleled developments in the impending years.
And let’s not forget the innumerable spin-offs Marbella will enjoy during both the lead up to and action in Qatar World Cup 2022! Yes, it’s 10 years away but as every good planner knows, it’s never too early to sow seeds of potential collaboration. I’m sure my old friend Ken Schooler – the enterprising landlord of The Tavern Bar, Calle Peral in Marbella Old Town and president of the International Supporters Club of Málaga CF – will join me and many others in toasting a promising time to come.
These major additions to Marbella’s credentials cannot be underestimated. There’s a busy time ahead for international investors and everyone with drive, foresight and an ever open mind.
