The Marbella Business Institute 30th Anniversary Meeting

A J Linn

The Marbella Business Institute, better known as the MBI, is the longest-running organisation of its kind in Andalucia. Founded in 1982 by six Marbella businessmen, it has become by default the senior club on the Coast for Spanish and expat business people.

Meeting monthly for a luncheon, usually in Marbella or San Pedro de Alcántara, there are no membership requirements for the simple reason that there are no members. Each meeting is held on an invitation-only basis, and although most regulars have been attending for many years, the lack of membership rules and regulations appears to suit the 30 or so attendants of mixed nationalities and backgrounds who turn up on the last Friday of each month for a high quality luncheon with excellent wines, with an invited speaker.

The 30th Anniversary event was held at Da Bruno sul Mare, a regular lunch venue, and was attended by 60 invitees that included many old and new faces. A raffle and an auction were held for local charities, mainly CUDECA, with New Asia, Yanx and Da Bruno restaurants, Yllera, Jorge Ordoñez and Cortijo Los Aguilares wines, Bodyworks Clinic, Mayan Monkey Chocolate Factory and Absolute World, along with many other personal donations, providing a selection of superb prizes that resulted in the collection of a four-figure sum.
