Special Concert for The Children for Peace
Special Concert for The Children for Peace -Press release
This is indeed a special concert. Three world renowned artists that are donating their time and talent to the cause, the emblematic venue that is the Centre Court at the Hotel Puente Romano Tennis Club, not to mention all the special guests that are coming from all over the world. VIP´s from the international business and entertainment world promise to make this an event that reminiscent of the Marbella glory days.
A press conference was held on Thursday 7th June where the Mayoress of Marbella, Marie Angeles Muñoz, Tourism Councillor Jose Luis Hernandez, Lamia Khashoggi, Count Rudi and Debra Mace gave us a little more insight into the charity that is the driving force behind this event.
“Montserrat Caballé is performing at this event altruistically; she has never accepted payment for any of the Children For Peace events she has attended. She believes in our work and we are blessed to have her support. She does many events for various charities and does so with her heart and soul. She truly represents Man’s humanity to Man.”
Debra Mace, followed on to explain that all profits of the concert go to the Children For Peace NGO charity and that these will go on to fund various projects such as their orphanage in Ethiopia that houses children that are orphaned through HIV / Aids. The children themselves are thankfully not positive for the illness but have been left on their own. They also receive education at a private school through the Montserrat Caballé Education Scholarship for Ethiopia. Families that the NGO has “adopted” where the households are headed by widows of men who died of HIV/AIDS, have children who now attend private school on the same scholarship.
Working with Concordia Charity of Marbella and Mujeres Solidarias at the University of Malaga, the NGO supports the education of the children in Dogan Country in the village of Sama. The children who are of school age are now in a school run by Mujeres Solidarias of Malaga.
800 children in a refugee camp in the Palestinian Territories are on a tutoring and mentoring program funded by The Children for Peace. Its success has generated a request by the UN Relief Workers Association to add 1,800 more children because of its unprecedented success.
The set list for the evening is still top secret but promises to include Puccini and Rossini classics, arias, boleros and of course duets with her daughter, Montserrat Marti, a soprano in her own right and Nikolay Baskov, the Russian tenor reputed to have fans following him wherever he goes!
This year´s San Juan evening will certainly be ablaze, but not only with the usual bonfires, Montserrat Caballé´s passionate voice promises to raise temperatures leaving us with a night to remember.
