Dario Poli starts campaign for Marbella
Composer, artist, and published author Dario Poli, whilst in Malmo Sweden in April 2007 , saw a CNN Broadcast on TV, which shocked and deeply disturbed him for its non-complimentary and negative content about Marbella and the Costa del Sol in general.
Furious, Dario decided there and then to fight back and do what he could to redress the propaganda. On returning to Spain he wrote the melody of a song which he titled “Marbella, Marbella” expressing his love for the town.
The lyrics were later added by Dario and Alan Ward and the song registered with S.G.A.E in Malaga, then first sung by singer Alan de Ward and produced by arranger David Mairs in his Fuengirola Studio. It was later recorded and sung by Scottish singing star Samantha Mairs and played on Radio Clyde FM in Scotland during her interview.
Since that fateful CNN program Dario’s one man fight for Marbella has intensified as the song has been played on most of the major radio programs such as Onda Cero FM, REM’s Mary Harboe Show, Radio Mijas, Global FM and Central FM just to mention a few, as well as television. It was used as a promotional song for “BLADERUN” Marbella to Ibiza September 2007, and since then his campaign story has been carried in over eighty international magazines and newspapers.
The song was presented by Laura Stanbridge, the organizer of the recent BCCS & CIT Symposium held in November which was attended by
the Mayoress Angeles Munoz, Councillor for Tourism of Marbella Jose Luis Hernandez, British publicist Max Clifford, REM’s leading radio presenter Maurice Boland and other heads of the business community.
Dario decided that to become more effective this song should have Spanish Lyrics and sung in the native language. He met Cuban singing star Yanela Brooks, who wrote the Spanish Lyrics and recorded the song which has been played on Spanish radio and TV.
The Spanish version was presented at Da Bruno’s exclusive restaurant in Marbella in April 2009, to a packed and positively responsive audience, including Royalty; and was brilliantly sung by Yanela Brooks, and the jazz version was played by internationally renowned jazz musician from Belgium Louis Fiers.
With the important support of Danish born IT expert Simon Schönbeck, they set up this new lifestyle website called “Marbella Marbella – Adelante” to continue Dario’s work via the medium of the internet. The site is steadily growing in popularity and reaching an international audience that includes artists and intellectuals. As one writer called it “A safe haven for art and culture!”
Dario is working to have the song “Marbella, Marbella” played all over Europe spreading the good news about the town and is working with others in the media to bring the tourists and property buyers back to this glorious area.
