Kofi Annan addresses the world in Marbella.
   Â
Over 800 attended yesterday’s talk by Kofi Annan at The 3rd World Conference on Climate Change and Wine. The Palacio de Congreso, Marbella, Costa del Sol is the chosen venue by the Wine Academy of Spain to present the largest and widest selection of fine wines with an inspiring collection of speakers on the subject of climate change in the business of winemaking.
Â
The former secretary-general of the United Nations and Nobel Prizewinner, Kofi Annan, urged the youth to get involved in the struggle against climate change and take their place in the fight against this phenomenon. “Being a leader in your community, with your friends, is the starting point to make a difference. Don’t be different and set yourself apart, instead, lead alongside your fellow-thinkers,” said Kofi Annan to the many young delegates at the conference. He was especially pleased and comforted by the presence of so many youths in the audience.
Kofi Annan and the President and founder of the Wine Academy of Spain, Pancho Campo MW, were each thanked for selecting Marbella as the venue for the conference and were presented with a gift by the Mayoress of Marbella, Angeles Muñoz.
Jose Luis Hernandez, Marbella Head of Tourism, had previously acknowledged privately to both Kofi Annan and Pancho Campo the importance of their presence on the Costa del Sol in terms of reinstasting Marbella to its rightful status in the perception of foreigners internationally. Visitors have come from across the world to attend this conference. Mrs. de la Roque from Jersey, Channel Islands, had come specifically to take advantage of listening to Kofi Annan. She commented “His calming voice instils a real sense of the duty that we all have in addressing the subject of climate change.”
