Mijas A Pueblo With “Corazón”
On Saturday the 9th June The Festival Internacional de Los Pueblos en Mijas, really kicked off with delightful and exciting performances at the opening of the Festival’s shows by the very talented Manuela Veronese and her FAMA dance troupe who performed number of beautifully choreographed and unusual sets, that began the days fascinating program, with the entrance of her young dancers carrying scores of flags representing some of the 120 nations who live in the Mijas area, dancing and singing to the music of “Corazón”
There were decorated stands from Germany, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Spain, The UK, India, Israel, Morocco, Mexico, Senegal, Ukraine, Uruguay, and Vietnam, displaying their delightful individualistic array of wares, food and beverages to suit all tastes.
The inaugural show continued with dances from Thailand, Bollywood and Flamenco dancing and colourful street parades from Bolivia and Columbia; percussion from Israel Lyron Man, and a super Flamenco choir called Coro Flamenco, and late into the night Celtic Night, the musical style and atmosphere changed as Irish dancing and music completed a most enjoyable day.
Despite stiff competition from the European football competition which had just started and was luring some football fans away from the festival. However the event still attracted large numbers of visitors and residents to come and enjoy the attractions that ran throughout the day and well into the night.
Supporting the event was the Mayor of Mijas and a number of dignitaries who joined in the positive spirit of the super day.
