Springtime
Springtime
By: Mike Al-Amiry
Will springtime bring sweet beginnings, or be the herald of bitter ends?
Will it be the devil’s gift to fools, or to the whole of mankind a godsend?
When the rising sun looks on man’s abode, with a bright and beaming smile
When the winter chills and gloom are stowed, away for the summer’s while
While birdsongs carried on a gentle breeze, softly whisper in your ear
While your heart is filled with joy to seize, the promise that you hear
A starving African infant dies, his cries are never heard
Spring colours fill wide open eyes, and ears with songs of bird
A soldier points his gun in homes, where folks should safely sleep
With blood-lust in his heart he roams, and a hatred running deep
Children of the lost walk on, in streets of ghostly towns
As talks on Palestine go on and on, their cry forever drowns
Will this spring show humanity winning; will old foes embrace as friends?
Will springtime bring sweet beginnings, or be the herald of bitter ends?
