“GoodVibes” With a Love of Music
Sofia, (Sofia Beatrice Monti) started her singing career in Italy where she was born and where she developed her vocal ability as mezzo-soprano in a polyphonic choir and singing many years with a dance band at dance clubs and discos throughout Tuscany, with a repertoire that ranged from “liscio”, typical Italian, to disco music.
Her Spanish career started on 2003 at the famous Italian restaurant “Da Bruno sul Mare”, in Marbella, where she performed two years and a half. This experience makes her know the Marbella’s public style and preferences, and gave her the opportunity to be known by many people. Later on, she moved through several Hotels and Clubs around the coast, like Las Dunas Hotel, where she took part on the
music program summer- winter 2005/2006 , or Puente Romano with Jazz Nights, or The Andalucía Plaza and Kempinsky Hotel on 2007, accompanied by talented artists as Ernesto “El Indio” on guitar or Thierry Luce on keyboards. During these years she developed a more classic repertoire with jazzy standards, bossa nova, smooth jazz and ballads in Italian, English and Spanish. In 2009 she also began
to propose solo performances, which she continues to gets many successes with, thanks to her ability to connect with the public.
At the end of 2008 she met Ricardo, singer and saxophonist, and she started to perform with him at Club La Costa, in Fuengirola.
Ricardo, (Ricardo Martinez Garcia), comes from a family with musical tradition. His grandmother, his father, one of his uncles and his older brother, were also musician. His grandmother Julia, great pianist, taught him music theory when he was five. At seven he began his musical studies at the Conservatory of Barcelona, and afterwards he continued in Malaga in 1978. He started on stage in 1975 as bassist, saxophonist, guitarist, keyboardist and singer, with various band in Malaga and later in the Canary Islands: Sabor a Miel, Tropical Pop, Superestar Sound, Los Hispanish, and Girasol.
In 1995, after 20 years of bands, he began his solo career performing in various clubs around the Costa del Sol and private parties, mainly alone, and occasionally, with duo, Trio or added to other bands. He performed several years at Torrequebrada Casino: in 1998 a duet with American singer Donna Robbins, solo in 1999, and in 2005 as part of the band in the SAMSARA charity event, accompanying artists like Philip Campuzano, Cristina Del Valle, DJ Karma, Barry Ivan White and Bijan Mortazavi.
Centered in the Marbella area from early 2005, he performed this year at Marvellous Pub in Puerto Banus with Paul Maxwell and Yanela Brooks, whose band he is still a part of nowadays. With them he has participated in many events in and out of Andalucía.
He has also been part of the Mayte Funky Ensemble band, also during the recording of their album, Akoplarse, already with the name The Black Mayte.
Since late 2008 his has been part of Sofia’s professional project. Both together, they discovered a great personal and musical feeling that created a solid musical junction which results in a wide acceptance by all audiences, who attend their performances frequently. The duo style is mainly soft music with jazz, smooth jazz, bossa nova, chill out… making international music predominantly in English, with Sofia’s Italian touch. Together they have performed for three consecutive years in The Charity Event organized by the Marbella Dutch Business Club, or in various events connected to the golfers’ world, as the Andalucian Dutch Open, and in the last two
years they have begun to develop a flourishing activity in private parties.
Now they have the opportunity to get the most of their melodic feeling at the new restaurant Da Bruno in Mijas Costa, where they act every weekend … for Sofia a “back to the origins”!
