Book Launch Success For Anna Smith

The Restaurant Mijas Playa, in la Cala de Mijas, was the venue for the Costa del Sol launch of Anna Smith’s second novel TO TELL THE TRUTH. Anna read, to a busy restaurant, the prologue from the book and proved to all what an accomplished public speaker she is. The quality of her writing, together with her charming Scottish accent, held the audience for some considerable time. I must say that prior to this book launch I’d never heard of Anna Smith and, as she’s a relatively new kid on the block, am sure that few have.

I can assure you that this will soon change. I read half of her first novel, The Dead Won’t Sleep, last night and the need for sleep forced me to put the book down. Anna has created a wonderful character in Rosie Gilmour, a crime journalist who works for a national Glasgow based newspaper which, as it happens, was Anna’s profession before becoming a full time novelist. Because of Anna’s background, the situations that Rosie finds herself in are as true to life as one could hope to get.
I spoke with her after the reading and what a character she is. She has a wonderful sense of humour and a captivating and infectious smile. She spoke with affection of her family in Airdrie Scotland whom she obviously adores and of her love for the Costa del Sol where she does a lot of her writing. I wish her every success with her books and if you get the chance do pick up a copy of her books which I’m sure you’ll enjoy. They’re fast moving, very well written and difficult to put down.
Anna, along with the majority of the people present for the reading, stayed on at the restaurant to enjoy a meal and danced to the music of the ever popular and talented pianist/singer David Mairs (that’s me-ha ha). It was a really busy night and we all had a great time. Anna introduced me to her sister and brother in law who live in my home town and, though we don’t know each other, we do have mutual friends. It was good to catch up on what was happening back home.
Due to a very busy schedule, it will be November before Anna’s back on the Costa and I very much look forward to meeting up with her again.
