"Marbella Marbella Adelante" - With artist Joyce Balk

2011 has begun positively as we are delighted to announce that the gifted and creative artist Joyce Balk, who originates from the Netherlands, but resides in Marbella, has now joined our dedicated team of contributors for “Marbella Marbella Adelante“.

Joyce Balk

I was fortunate to meet Joyce at an art exhibition early in 2010 and thankfully we kept in touch and now she is willing to give us some of her valuable time to write about her work and interests.

Her artistic creations are sublimely elegant, is the best word I can find to describe her beautiful individual works of art, that clearly allows a sensitive observer to gaze through a window of light that shines from and onto her heart, as she weaves her fertile imagination, across the surfaces she has prepared for her visual expressions.

She comes for Holland, a land small in land mass, often pressed severely by the sea, but huge in it’s international reputation for artistic creativity and whose hard working artists, even reached the heights of the Italians during the glorious days of the Renaissance. Joyce Balk continues in that esteemed tradition.

In the next week or so Joyce will be publishing her first article which we hope you will enjoy and perhaps engage and interact with her. I would welcome an exchange of ideas on art between the sculptor Chris Stone and Joyce as it would be interesting for us also. I have posted below one sample of her art just to give you a flavour of whats to come.

We wish her the very best for 2011 in all that she does.

Joyce Balk specialized in making (monumental) trompe l’oeil, murals and fresco.
She started her company, Finishing Touch Art&Decor Studio in 1989 in The Hague, The Netherlands.

What did you think of this article?

  • I cannot wait to read the articles from Joyce, as far as I am concerned art makes the world a better place to live in, It is exiting to see these pages grow, and grow with quality, variety, new contributors, and enthusiasm.
    Big welcome Joyce!
    Warm regards, Christopher

    • Thank you Chris for your warm words of welcome for Joyce. I agree with all you have said and I look forward to reading and learning more about the art world from you and Joyce.

  • I thank you Dario for the opportunity!
By the way, Exciting is the word, not exiting
as I wrote earlier, quite different I think.

  • Dear Chris,
Thank you for your kind welcoming words. I loved reading your article and your engagement with the world as it has been created fore us and by us.
I was especialy enchanted by the image of the 'menagerie' and would love to see more of your work. Although images are great, seeing a work of art in real life adds a different dimension ,I think. The handmade works of art radiate the energy that has been put into them (and sometimes the lack of it). This energy sometimes makes you feel drawn to a work of art without knowing why. It might not even be to your taste or liking but you feel 'drawn' to it. The opposite can happen when a work of art by an artist you generaly like leaves you completely uninspired.
Unfortunately I will not be able to come and see your work in February because I will be in Lugano, Switserland, making a mural.
But afther that I hope to get a chance soon.
    Kind regards,

  • Dear Joyce, again welcome, I visited your site and I am amazed at your ability, your approach, and the execution applied, fantastic stuff, the world needs more beautiful imaginative art like this, If only we could do it for free.
Thank you for your kind words regarding Menagerie, at this moment Menagerie and a few other pieces are in Marbella with my agent Stephen Howes, I am sure that if you wanted a peek he would be happy to show you.
If you cannot make it I will be at Stephens show "A million euros of art" which will be at the Casino from 31st March through to May 4th.
I would be honoured to meet you should you be around at that time, if not we can discuss our world, and the world in general through Darios wonderful pages.
Have a good time in Switzerland.
    Warm regards, Chris
