San Pedro hosts 4th Photo Marathon
San Pedro de Alcántara will host the fourth Photo Marathon on Sunday, May 9, from 10:00 in the Church Square (Plaza de la Iglesia). Up to 100 participants will be admitted to the competition.
The competition this year features two new developments. More awards will be presented – six in total, rather than four as in the past, and the prizes will be more valuable, going from 1,000 to 1,300 euros. In addition, less analogue photography will be on exhibit, giving far greater emphasis to the digital mode.
‘This is certainly a great activity because photography is widespread among the population’, said Marbella’s Councillor for Culture, Carmen Diaz, during a press conference to inaugurate the event. Diaz was accompanied by the deputy mayor of San Pedro, Miguel Troyano, and Rafael Jurado, photographer and sponsor.
The competition is divided into two categories, depending on age of participants: adults and children, including young people up to age 14. The participants, who may complete registration on the day of the activity, must be equipped with a camera memory card. Adults pay a three-euro entry fee, while those under 14 participate for free.
As explained by one of the instructors of the local Autonomous Organisation for Arts and Culture, Maria Jose Villanueva, contestants will have seven hours, from 10:00 to 17:00, to present up to 24 pictures on a variety of subjects. Beginning at 17.00, the organization will make a short-list of 30 photographs, and from that list, they will arrive at six winners. The winning entries will be announced on May 17. Finally, from May 17 through 21, the 30 short-listed photographs will be displayed at the Exhibition Hall of San Pedro.
