Sevilla football manager sacked
Manolo Jimenez, the beleaguered manager of Sevilla, has been fired following a series of embarrassing losses and draws.
His dismissal follows a 1-1 draw in the Tuesday match against Xerez in the Sánchez Pizjuan on Tuesday. That result was particularly disappointing for Sevilla because Xerez has ranked bottom.
Jimenez recently hinted that he would leave Sevilla at the end of the season in June, remarking in a press conference on March 20 that he had decided on his future.
Sevilla has failed to win the last seven games, five in the league and two in the Champions. On March 16, they lost 1-2 against CSKA Moscow, propelling Moscow into the Champions League.
Jimenez took over the club from Juan de Ramós, who left for Tottenham in October 2007. He led the team to the Copa del Rey final in 2009, but Sports commentators have noted that Jimenez has never really settled in as manager at Sevilla.
